SKI SHOPS IN DENMARK

There are plenty of good larger ski shops around Denmark. You can quickly run out of ski equipment before you've even set off on your ski holidays. That's why we recommend shopping for your ski equipment here in Denmark - to support the ski community and the shops around Denmark.

When you're shopping for ski equipment, there are some essential items that you just have to have and some items that you can do without but are good to have with you.

The most important thing is of course

Ski helmet - available in a wide range of models, e.g. with built-in headsets, built-in goggles, prices can range from 300 to 2000 DKK.

Ski goggles are one of the most important things you don't buy too cheaply, they're the ones that allow you to see on the slopes, it's a scandal to get out on the slopes if you're learning to ski and your goggles start to fog up.

Ski boots - If you plan to go on several ski trips but want to be sure which type of ski you want, it can be a good idea to buy ski boots and not skis at the same time.

Ski gloves - are also an important element. If you don't have gloves that are waterproof or have Gore-Tex in them, you can have a really miserable day on the slopes if your gloves get wet. If you head north, where it can be really cold, a cheap ski glove from Bilka can definitely ruin your ski holidays.

Ski socks - If you buy thick socks where the heat cannot escape and the sweat cannot be transported, you may find that your socks become sweaty and if they get cold, you may have to deal with frozen toes - my recommendations to everyone is to go for marino wool, they cost a little more than others, but in our opinion they are also just far better as they do not get as sweaty cotton or fit as tight as compression.

Skis - if you're buying skis for the first time, it's important not to buy them online and just choose based on the color of the ski, that's the biggest mistake you can make. It's important to find out what kind of skier you are and what you really want when you ski, is it the park and tricks or is it the piste and speed, or are you going off-piste.

Snowboards - Just like skis, there are now several different types of snowboards that react and adapt to different terrain. Do you need one for park and jib, off-piste or speed on the piste or a good all-round board. If you don't get professional guidance, you can quickly end up buying the wrong board. Brands to consider that have many years in the industry are of course Burton, who have just made a major revolution in snowboards with their Burton - step on system. Other brands that we think deserve a mention here are Jones Snowboards, Bataleon & Lib.

The ski jacket —it’s important to invest in a jacket that allows you to move freely, without being too big or too small. If it is, it won’t keep you warm the way a ski jacket should. We recommend that you look for a ski jacket with a water column rating of at least 5000/5000. Brands we’re particularly familiar with here in Denmark include Peak Performance, Salomon, Helly Hansen, Picture, and The North Face —the new brands we’re starting to see in the mountains are Dope from Dopesnow and Montec.

Ski Pants — When it comes to investing in ski pants, just like with a ski jacket, we think it’s important that you get something you can move around in—and most importantly, something you can do a squat in. If you can’t, then you should skip them, even if they were the exact pair you wanted. At a minimum, look for a pair with a water column rating of 5,000/5,000, preferably higher. Some great brands to consider include Peak Performance, Planks, Haglöfs, Norrøna, and, of course, Salomon.

Back shield - We recommend all new skiers to wear a back shield, as being a new and inexperienced skier can cause serious injuries. As a snowboarder, it's even more important to wear a back protector, as the situation where you don't have balance and fall over on your side with your back to the slope, you can get hit hard, and one of the reasons many people don't learn to snowboard when they try is simply that they hurt themselves too much in the process of learning to stand on the board.

Hip protector - It's not a must-have and many don't use it, as a snowboarder who sits a lot on the butt, it helps you both against getting a cold butt, it also helps you in those situations where you have to pick yourself up from a snowdrift. For those times when you're falling at high speed, it also takes the impact for you. The most important thing when you buy a pair of butt protectors is that they are tight, if they are not tight, it will work in the same way as if a back shield is not tight, it will mean that when you hit the ground, it will first hit the shield and then hit you, so it is important that they are tight.

Ski underwear - Personally, I'm the type of person who would never go out on the slopes without my ski underwear on. I doubt many others feel differently than I do. Ski underwear comes in many different types and fabric types, I usually go with merino wool but synthetics are fine too. The first many years of skiing I had a set from Helly Hansen, which many people know today, which is also used by many who work outdoors. A little hack you should have, you can get a pair of 3/4 part ski underpants so you can put them just below the knee and just above your ski boot or snowboard boot, so you avoid anything bothering you down in the boot.

There is a lot of other ski equipment you can buy for ski holidays, I thought I'd just mention some of the things here. If you check around the site you can find a lot of other information about ski equipment, prices and much more.
