Skiing and snowboarding in Laax

For ski holidays where the terrain, facilities and atmosphere are top class, Laax is an obvious choice. The resort offers a total of 224 km of slopes, covering everything from wide, gentle runs to technically challenging off-piste routes. This makes Laax easily comparable to other major ski resorts such as Whistler in Canada – but with a significant difference in the price of lift passes and less crowding at the lifts.

Modern elevator infrastructure

One of the biggest advantages of Laax is the modern lift systems that are constantly being updated. Skiers can enjoy comfortable gondolas and chairlifts with heated seats, making long lift queues a thing of the past. In the coming seasons, five more new gondolas will be put into operation, providing easier access to new ski areas around the Cassons-Ils Cugns peak.

World-class snow parks

One of Laax’s biggest attractions is the award-winning snow parks and the giant superpipe, a mecca for freestyle enthusiasts. Whether you’re a professional snowboarder or a beginner, there are plenty of opportunities to challenge yourself in the various freestyle areas. Where is Laax?

Laax is located in the canton of Graubünden, which is situated in south-eastern Switzerland. The area covers three main villages – Laax, Flims and Falera – with Flims being the largest of them. Laax is just 21 km from the canton’s capital, Chur, and around 145 km from Zurich, the nearest international airport.

Traveling to Laax is easy, whether you choose to drive or use public transport. From Zurich you can take the train to Chur or Ilanz and then take a bus that goes directly to both Laax and Flims. Alternatively, you can rent a car or book a private transfer.

Laax

Laax also offers several traditional hotels, such as Laaxerhof, which offers classic Swiss hospitality and cozy surroundings.

Flims

Flims is a large urban area with direct access to the ski lifts. There are many ski-in ski-out options, making it easy to hit the slopes first thing in the morning. The Hide Flims and Hillsite Hotel Flims are among the most popular choices for guests who want to stay close to the slopes. If you’re looking for something more affordable, consider the Arena Lodge, which offers simple and functional accommodation close to the ski area.

Falera

If you’re looking for peace and quiet, Falera is a good choice. This small village is higher than the others and is known for its cozy atmosphere. Although smaller, Falera is still easily accessible to the ski area and many of the accommodation options are private apartments and chalets, perfect for families or groups who want their own space. Activities off the slopes

Although Laax is best known for its skiing and snowboarding, there are plenty of activities for those who don’t necessarily want to spend all day skiing. The area has approximately 100 km of winter hiking trails that allow you to explore the scenic surroundings on foot.

Snow sledding and ice skating

For families or those looking for fun in the snow, there are several snowmobile trails to choose from. The tracks vary in length, with the longest at 3.6 km. In addition, there are both indoor and outdoor ice rinks where you can try your hand at skating on both artificial and natural ice rinks.

Other winter activities

Laax also offers a wide range of other winter activities such as paragliding, curling and ice climbing. There are also wellness centers and swimming pools where you can relax and recover after a long day on the mountain.

Transportation options to Laax

There are several ways to get to Laax, but the most common is by public transportation or car. From Zurich, you can take the train to Chur and then a bus that goes directly to Laax. The train ride takes about an hour and a half and the bus connection from Chur to Laax takes about 40 minutes. Alternatively, you can rent a car directly from the airport, giving you more flexibility to explore the area.
