What makes Riksgränsen special?

It is clearly the location near the Arctic Circle that is the main attraction of Riksgränsen. The cold here makes it possible to enjoy skiing as late as April or May. Although it’s a remote destination, it’s easily accessible by plane to Kiruna, after which you can rent a car or take a bus to Riksgränsen.

Off-Piste and heliskiing

Riksgränsen is known for its off-piste and heliskiing. In fact, it’s one of the few places in Sweden that offers heliskiing. With only six lifts and 29 slopes, it’s ideal for skiers looking to explore untouched tracks. The resort’s steepest piste, “Skimastern”, is a black piste and a favorite among experienced skiers.

Freeride options

Riksgränsen has excellent freeride opportunities. The weather can be harsh and the area is minimally prepared, making it perfect for skiers looking for exciting freeride opportunities. But it all requires you to bring the right gear. You typically have that gear when you go up there.

Heliskiing

Helicopter skiing is one of the most popular activities in Riksgränsen. There are drops of up to 900 meters in the immediate vicinity of Riksgränsen, and if you fly a little further to the Kebnekaise massif, there are drops of up to 1400 meters.

Ski touring in Riksgränsen

With over 60 mountains that rise above 1,200 meters, Riksgränsen is an ideal place for ski touring. Routes are available at all levels, from easy to demanding day trips. However, it is recommended to have a trained mountain guide on the more challenging routes.

Riksgränsen’s campsite, which consists of 134 caravan pitches, is beautifully situated by Lake Vassijaure. Next to the campsite is a service building with toilets, showers, washroom and sauna. Each electrically connected pitch has 10A fuses and access to cable TV. Tent pitches are also offered during the winter.
