Ski holidays Kläppen

Kläppen Ski Resort is not only Sweden’s largest family-owned ski resort, but also the 6th largest resort in all of Sweden. Kläppen is located about 270 km from Oslo, so it’s easy to get here if you take the ferry to Oslo. What makes Kläppen unique is that it’s not just any mountain—it’s a mountain built specifically for skiing.

The Eriksson Family and the Kläppen Ski Resort

The Eriksson family is behind the creation of Kläppen. The story began in 1982, when Per Eriksson was hiking around Kläppenberget in winter boots. His grand visions have now become a reality. Kläppen has always been a family project—more precisely, the Eriksson family’s way of life. Per Eriksson’s son, Gustav Eriksson, has been CEO for several years now, and Gustav’s wife, Lena Eriksson, is the HR manager at Kläppen Ski Resort.

Gustav and Lena have three children who, like all the other children in Sälen, spend almost all their free time at Kläppen. But the Eriksson family isn’t alone in wanting to develop Kläppenberget. Working alongside the family is a close-knit group of colleagues and friends, all of whom share a passionate commitment to skiing and snowboarding at Kläppen Ski Resort.

Skiing in Kläppen

Kläppen Ski Resort is built around a mountain with 38 slopes in all four directions. The ski resort is surrounded by forest, which provides good protection from the wind and means the snow lasts longer on the slopes. Kläppen offers varied skiing for both young and old. There are also several cross-country trails, totaling 37 km, for those who want a bit of variety in their skiing during their ski holidays.

Gondola Sälen: A nice ride to the top

Another experience is the transportation from the valley to the top with Gondola Sälen. Thanks to the cable car’s 51 gondolas, with a capacity of 2,600 people per hour, lift queues are rare at the ski resort, although there will be some at peak weeks 6-10. Another big plus is that each gondola has electrically heated seats, making the ride both comfortable and restorative for the next trip down the slopes.

With Kläppen’s 38 ski runs, surrounded by forest, and amenities such as the Sälen Gondola, it’s not only Sweden’s largest family-owned ski resort but also one of the most memorable ski destinations. Whether you’re an experienced skier or new to the slopes, you’re sure to have a great time at Kläppen.

Trolle & Trolla: The mascots of the lip

When you arrive at Kläppen, the children will have the pleasure of meeting the ski resort’s big mascots, the troll siblings Trolle & Trolla. In addition to spending time in the kids’ area, the trolls put on several shows throughout the week, where the children are invited to sing along and interact with them.

Kläppen Snowpark: National arena for freeskiing and snowboarding

Another factor that has put Kläppen Ski Resort on the skiing map is its award-winning parks: Kläppen Snowpark, Junior Snowpark, and Blue Line. The first of these has been designated as the national venue for freeskiing and snowboarding, and both the national snowboarding and freeskiing teams hold many of their training camps here. With a little luck, you might meet Swedish snowboard star Sven Thorgren, who is one of Kläppen’s ambassadors.

Activities at Kläppen Ski Resort

For those who want a different experience, we recommend a guided snowshoe hike at the top of Kläppenberget. For those who want more speed, there is the option of a snowmobile safari, which like the other activities, starts from the top of the mountain.

Restaurants in Kläppen

Take your pick from Kläppen’s seven restaurants and cafés. The restaurant owners support local entrepreneurs in Sälen and Dalarna, which is why much of what’s served at the ski resort is prepared with local ingredients. The philosophy at Kläppen Restaurants is clear: “Your ski holidays should also be a culinary experience.”

Cross-country skiing at Kläppen Ski Resort

For alpine skiing, you’ll find Kläppen’s four cross-country ski trails, 37 kilometers in total, for both skate and classic styles. Choose between cross-country skiing along the Västerdal River down in the valley, on open and snow-covered moorland or on top of Kläppenberget.
