Poland as a ski holidays destination

Poland isn’t exactly known for its ski slopes, and I’d say there’s a reason for that. That said, if you’re looking for a weekend ski trip with the kids, it can be perfectly fine to just drive to Poland to go skiing. The areas aren’t the biggest, so most people who have been skiing for several weeks will end up getting bored.

Poland is beautiful and cheap. There’s really beautiful nature in Poland, the food tastes good, and it’s possible to get big meals for little money. They speak broken English and German and want to speak Polish.

You can easily get to Poland for a weekend for 2000 with everything included. That means food, ski rental, lift pass and accommodation. The most expensive will probably be the drive down there or the flight.

Poland’s Largest Ski Area

Poland’s largest ski area is Zakopane. This is where most Danes go. If you’re an experienced skier, you’ll probably get bored pretty quickly. Most of the slopes are blue, which also makes the area very family friendly. The highest point of the ski area is at 2000 meters, while the lowest point is at 1200 meters. The city itself is located at 900 meters.

The lift pass costs ¼ of what it costs in, for example, Italy or Austria. You can get a week’s lift pass for around 500 kr for an adult.

The city is lively, with good restaurants, shops, bars, discos and fine hotels. This means you can easily find a place to buy some beers or find some good food in the city if the hotel doesn’t live up to expectations.

2 other good options are

Szklarska Poreba Again a small ski area, if you ask a Dane if they know the area, most will probably say no. But for the Poles, the area is well visited. There are lights at night on one of the slopes and therefore your ski day is not necessarily over at 4pm like many other places.

The area is located on the mountain Szrenica where the altitude goes up to 1361 meters. There are 2 chair lifts. There are snow cannons, so you can be sure that there is snow from December to mid-April.

Eating in Szklarska Poreba is incredibly cheap, you can find good food and you get a lot of food for your money. Beer and drinks can also be ordered in bulk without feeling cheated.

Karpacz is a small ski area in Poland, you probably won’t find many “tourists” many of those who come there are Poles who want to have fun with their families. The area has 2 chairlifts, 13 kilometers of slopes, there are blue, red and black slopes in the small area. The ski area is located at an altitude of 800-1300 meters.

Karkonosk is a national park that Karpacz is located in, so if you like hiking, it’s a good idea to bring good boots. If you want to see some beautiful nature.

The food is super cheap, great beers for around 20kr. Visit the few restaurants there are and get a taste of Polish culture.
