Kvitfjell as a ski destination

Kvitfjell is a complete and snow-sure ski resort with challenges for skiers of all levels. Kvitfjell is one of the first ski areas to open the ski season in Norway and one of the places that closes the ski season at the end of April. Kvitfjell has been chosen as one of the best alpine ski resorts in Norway by the largest newspaper in Norway. Over 100 snow cannons ensure you get the perfect conditions.

The area offers 34 km of alpine slopes spread over 854 meters of altitude, where you can ski everything from easy green slopes to challenging black runs. With a fine selection of slopes and areas, Kvitfjell is the perfect place for skiers of all levels.

Kvitfjell was built for the 1994 Winter Olympics and has since become well-known among alpine skiers all over the world. Super-G and downhill competitions have been held here. From what was originally a lift and a downhill run, a large ski center with 2 snowboard parks has been constructed. The slopes in Kvitfjell were designed by Swiss Bernard Russi. The downhill slope meets all modern World Cup criteria.

Terrain parks in Kvitfjell

Kvitfjell has two snowparks in Kvitfjell. At the middle station you’ll find Kvitfjellparken, an exciting and fun park full of different elements. For the little ones there is the KIDS park with smaller jumps and boxes.

Family-friendly ski areas in Kvitfjell

Kids Skitorget

KIDS Skitorget is the family area on the Kvitfjell West side. Here you’ll find an 80 meter long ribbon lift, a children’s ski tow, the KIDS park, KIDS World Cup and new barbecue huts.

Kids World Cup

The KIDS World Cup is part of the KIDS ski center. This slope is a miniature version of the famous Olympic slope.

Kids Gold Brand Guard

At the intermediate station you’ll find KIDS GudbrandsGard, the perfect place for children. The area includes two magic carpets, three beginner slopes, a plate lift, a wave piste, a forest trail and a cozy little warming room.

Meet the mascot Jøkul

The local mascot, Jøkul, will be present in Kvitfjell throughout the winter. Jøkul loves the family areas in Kvitfjell, KIDS Skitorget and KIDS GudbrandsGard.

Accommodation in Kvitfjell

From modern hotels and cozy ski chalets to spacious apartments, Kvitfjell offers a wide range of accommodation options to meet all needs. You’ll find these amenities at both the middle station (east side) and the west side, as well as on the new mountainside, Varden. In Varden there are brand new rental cabins with family-friendly ski slopes on the doorstep.

The intermediate station

The middle station has accommodation with fantastic views of Gudbrandsdalen. Here you’ll find ski rental, a sports shop, ticket sales, Plaza Ski Cafe, Koia Aprés-ski, Børson grocery store, Fôr Restaurant, a children’s area, and the Olympic Slope. Gudbrandsgard Hotel is reminiscent of an old royal palace from Norwegian folk tales in both appearance and atmosphere and is located in the heart of Kvitfjell with ski-in, ski-out access to the slopes and fine restaurants.

West side

The west side, also known as the “sunny side”, has cabins and apartments with good sunny conditions and direct access to nature. On the sunny west side you’ll find a sports shop, ski rental, Gondolen Fjellbistro restaurant and lift pass sales at Skitorget. The popular Tyrihanstunet restaurant is also located on the west side. The family area KIDS Skitorget, with a platter lift, children’s ski lift, KIDS park and KIDS World Cup, is a great area for children and beginners.

Varden – The new part

Varden is Kvitfjell’s new mountainside with family-friendly trails. A new transport gondola connects Varden to the west side and a 6-person chairlift goes to the top of the new mountainside. A green and blue piste perfect for beginners is waiting to be skied. Varden is Kvitfjell’s most snow-safe area and a very popular area for cabins located close to both cross-country and alpine slopes.

Restaurants in Kvitfjell

Kvitfjell is also known for its culinary approach. A total of seven restaurants located in the mountains offer a wide variety of dishes, from simple lunches to 3-course dinners. Kvitfjell is a “fryer-free mountain” – this means that the food is fast, but made from scratch, which guarantees a fantastic taste experience.

Westside and Varden

Middle station on the east side

The trip to Kvitfjell for most Danes will take the ferry to Oslo and then drive the 250 km to Kvitfjelle, which takes about 3 hours.

When is the ski season in Kvitfjell?

Kvitfjell plans to open at the end of November and the season runs until mid/late April. If the weather permits, they open earlier.

Can you go night skiing in Kvitfjell?

You can go night skiing from mid-December through the season, on Tuesdays and Fridays. However, there is no evening skiing on Christmas Day or New Year's Day.
