Ski holidays to Cervinia

The Cervinia ski area is beautifully situated in a wide, glacier-crowned bowl at the foot of Monte Cervino – also known as the Matterhorn – on the Italian side of the border opposite Zermatt. Located in Valle d’Aosta, Italy, the area offers a fantastic skiing and dining experience at a surprisingly affordable price. Valle d’Aosta is the smallest region in Italy, but it’s the region that gets the most ski tourists every year, with many from France and Switzerland coming here as it’s right on the border and it’s a cheaper area.

Breuil-Cervinia: From mountaineering village to ski resort

Before Cervinia was developed into a ski resort, the village was a base for mountaineers and was known as Breuil. Today, the official name is Breuil-Cervinia, but most people refer to it as Cervinia.

Cervinia is located at an altitude of 2050 meters and the highest skiing is at 3883 meters. There are several good restaurants and eateries in Cervinia, where it is also possible to get something other than pasta and pizza.

The most important thing in this ski area is to get back from the Zermatt ski area in good time before the lifts close. Otherwise, a very expensive taxi bill or overnight stay in Zermatt awaits. It takes about 3-4 hours by car to Cervinia by car from Zermatt.

Cervinia-Valtournenche and Zermatt

Cervinia ski resort includes Valtournenche and is linked to Zermatt in Switzerland through lifts, slopes and the lift pass, funnily enough the lift pass is actually slightly cheaper in Cervinia. Together they make up one of the most visited ski resorts in the world, called Matterhorn Ski Paradise. This impressive ski area is only surpassed by a few giant ski destinations like 3 Valleys, Portes du Soleil and 4 Vallees.
