The Grande Motte glacier, located at an altitude of 3,456 meters, is Tignes’ highest point. Skiers and snowboarders can explore the highest terrain and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views – the skiing up here is fantastic and it’s so snow-sure it’s summer skiing. But it’s also the first area to be closed if the weather is bad.

With a total piste length of 300 km stretching across Tignes and Val d’Isere, there’s something for everyone. 24 green, 65 blue, 40 red and 32 black runs ensure that there are challenges for everyone, regardless of level. In addition, there are 2 larger snowparks for those who love freestyle skiing, as well as a wealth of off-piste opportunities – once you know the area a little.
In Tignes you can experience a fantastic variety of high altitude slopes shared with Val d’Isère. Each area has its own character – from après-ski activities to quieter, family-friendly areas.

Tignes is the ideal area for intermediate skiers and snowboarders, with a great selection of long blue and red runs. From the Grand Motte glacier you can experience the spectacular view of the whole area, if you go all the way to the top of Grand Motte, be prepared for speed, it can be technical and a bit icy from the top. But otherwise you take the train that goes up from Val Claret, Val Claret is located as the last area in the Tignes area – Here you get off and do not go further up, here you can both get back to Val Claret but you can also take the other way towards Val d’Isere, La Daille and Le Fornet.
Amazing slopes in tignes
The blue run from the top of the Grattalu chairlift is known for being wide and having fantastic snow conditions.
In high season, when all the slopes are open, the long blue and red runs from the top of the Aiguille Percée (2748m) all the way down to Tignes les Brevieres (1550m) offer skiers and snowboarders some great skiing.

For those looking for steep slopes, the Sache piste is the ideal choice. A thrilling piste that starts from Aiguille Percee and continues all the way down to Les Brévières. Your skiing skills will be put to the test here.
Off-piste skiing in Val d’Isere
For more experienced skiers, we recommend heading over to Val d’Isere for some fantastic off-piste opportunities. The woodlands above Le Fornet and Banane off the Bellevarde both offer excellent terrain for off-piste skiing – on days with big snowfalls and you want to be here first thing in the morning, we recommend taking the car as everyone wants a piece of the action when fresh powder arrives.
Snowboarding in Tignes
Tignes is a paradise for snowboarders – as a snowboarder, the worst parts are flat and you should be aware that if you come up from Grand Motte and head towards Val Claret, you have to make sure you have good speed, but otherwise we only have good experiences, there are also very few lifts in the area.
World-class snowboarders train and compete, and it’s no surprise with the extensive terrain of great off-piste, snowparks and powder-filled bowls. Beginners can have a great snowboarding experience on the beginner slopes of Le Lac, while freestylers will have fun in the large terrain parks at Palafour. With a 120m superpipe, this park is built for adrenaline-seeking snowboarders.
Glacier skiing: Grande Motte Glacier
The Grande Motte Glacier offers skiing up to 3,456m. You can get up here with the underground Perce-Neige cable car which is actually a train in just 7 minutes, followed by a gondola. From the top you can choose from a variety of terrain spread over 20km and some trails even take you all the way back to Tignes.

Hotel Les Suites – Maison Bouvier
Hotel Les Suites – Maison Bouvier was the first 5-star hotel in Tignes. Ideally located in the heart of Tignes Val Claret and close to the slopes, it is a luxury boutique hotel that combines traditional alpine chalet architecture with contemporary design and a focus on fine gastronomy.
With 31 rooms and suites, guests can choose between Classic and Tradition – the latter being slightly larger in size. Each room is individually furnished and decorated, and they are all both spacious and truly luxurious. So it costs a little more.

Hotel Village Montana in Tignes is a ski-in, ski-out property. With a wide range of facilities and accommodation styles, it is an excellent choice for all ages. Village Montana is located in an elevated position in the Les Almes area of Tignes le Lac.

Club Med’s recently renovated Tignes Val Claret edition gives ski lovers access to the Espace Kelly ski area, one of France’s most beautiful ski areas. Tignes is a ski resort town that ranges from budget-friendly brasseries to Michelin-starred restaurants. If you’re on the hunt for classic French cuisine or you want something a little different, we’ve looked at a few excellent choices that won’t disappoint.
We must also mention that Val d’Isere, which is not far away by car, is definitely worth a visit to find a good restaurant – as well as many shops.
Couloir, Val Claret
Traditional and friendly, Couloir is one of the most popular restaurants in the Tignes area. The international menu includes delicious dishes such as almond-coated camembert, crispy pork belly, burgers and côte de boeuf. Couloir has a cozy atmosphere, perfect for a relaxing evening after a great day on the slopes.
Loop bar, Tignes Le Lac
After a day on the slopes, Loop bar is the perfect place to relax or party. The food is good and there’s everything from burgers to wraps. Loop bar is also known for its après-ski, so you can enjoy good food and a few drinks to good music.
Texmex tignes, Val Claret
Texmex Tignes is a retro diner with an American/Tex-Mex menu. Chef Jean-Michel Bouvier creates a wide range of delicious dishes, all with a twist. The staff are super friendly and give you an authentic French experience as they wear the traditional Savoyard beret as part of their uniform. What’s more, the prices here are great too.
The chaudannes mountain pasture
L’Alpage des Chaudannes is a fantastic mountain restaurant with a large sun terrace. It’s a great place to soak up the sun on those beautiful blue sky days. The cozy and warm decor is also very inviting, especially on snowy days. Here you can enjoy fantastic Savoyard gourmet dishes along with an excellent selection of Savoy wines.
The Panoramic, La Grande Motte Glacier
High above Val Claret at 3,032m you’ll find the highest Michelin-starred restaurant in the world. Here you can get suckling pig, T-bone steak and even pigeon straight from the wood-fired grill. It’s a bit on the expensive side, but it’s also an experience.
La ferme des 3 capucines, Lavachet
La Ferme des 3 Capucines is a rustic farm and restaurant serving Savoyard favorites like raclette, fondue and tartiflette, made with their very own homemade cheese. To experience La Ferme is to experience the essence of Savoyard culture.

Is Tignes a good ski area for young people?
Tignes is perhaps the perfect area for young people, funnily enough many colleges and universities organize ski trips here. The reason lies in the wide choice of slopes, many ski schools and plenty of bars. This means that if you're brand new to skiing or snowboarding and there are 10 people on the trip who have been skiing since they were little. Then you can split up and all get something out of the ski trip.

10 km - La Sache, off-track. To get up to it, take the "Palafour" lift, drive down to the "Aiguille Percpe" lift, take it up - and you're ready to speed down La Sache.
