Czech Republic as a ski holidays destination
The first thing I’ll mention is the prices, prices in the Czech Republic are far below those in Norway, Sweden, France and Austria. There are great ski resorts with +10-15 slopes with great runs and lots of snow. There’s something for everyone, whether you’re a beginner skier or snowboarder or you’ve been skiing for a few weeks. Destinations include Cerna Hora, Harrachov and Spindleruv Mlyn, with Spindleruv Mlyn being the largest area in the Czech Republic.

Czech Republic’s Largest Ski Areas
This is where most Danes go in the Czech Republic, the area has just over 25 km of slopes. The places consist of 2 areas, Horni Misecky and Svaty Petr where you take the ski bus for free after buying a lift pass. One of the areas has slightly steeper slopes, while the other area is more child-friendly.
The snow cannons help to ensure that you are always guaranteed good slopes in the area. When I was in Spindleruv Mlyn we experienced a bit of a queue with the lifts as you get pulled up all over 2 places, so you will experience queues during busy weeks like everywhere else.
Cross-country skiing in Spindleruv Mlyn offers just over 90 km of trails in a beautiful area.
Cerna hora & Harrachov
Cerna Hora is the largest area in terms of piste kilometers. The area is divided into 3 ski areas, Pec Pod Snezkou, Janske Lazne and Cerny dul. Cerna Hora has just over 30 km of alpine slopes. You get a lift pass for around 900kr for 6 days.
Areas offer something for the whole family or groups, but if you’ve been skiing for weeks and skiing red and black in France or Austria, you’ll probably get bored pretty quickly.
If you’re into cross-country skiing, you’ve got around 70 km to cover, the area is super beautiful and you won’t get bored.
There are cheap restaurants in the area and you can eat for under 100 with a large beer in many places.
Harrachov is a very small area with just over 5 km of slopes, many Czechs go there even when the snow lands. This also means that you can end up queuing for a long time as there’s only one lift to pull everyone up, everyone comes down to the same lift and has to wait to get back up.
The price of the lift pass is therefore also very cheap and the area is only suitable for beginners – others will quickly get bored here, so if you have a planned vacation and want to go skiing, consider your choice before heading to Harrachov.
You can try your hand at cross-country skiing, which is about 50km away. If you have children on vacation, this is not a place I would recommend.

Prices in Czech Republic
The Czech Republic produces a lot of beer, so you’ll find that beer is quite cheap compared to France or Austria. So if you’re a young team going to drink a lot of beer and want to eat cheaply, it’s possible to eat cheaply at many restaurants in the different cities.
The lift pass prices will not cost you more than 1000kr for 6 days, so your lift pass is already 50% cheaper than Val Thorens or other major destinations. However, do not compare the 2 destinations, it is important to emphasize.
Hotels or apartment rentals, you get a lot of value for your money here, you can stay really nice for a cheap price if you want. You can also choose to stay cheap and secure a 6-day ski vacation for less than 3000.- per person.
Family trip to Czech Republic on skis
I can recommend the Czech Republic as a ski holiday destination if you have not skied many times before or are completely new to skiing and therefore do not need so many slope kilometers. If you are new to skiing, you are first and foremost looking for it to be printed, if you are parents of new skiers, you also want to be able to find your child on the slopes if they are lost, this is possible at smaller destinations.
The areas are very child-friendly and the prices are way down. The food, lift pass and beer so I would say it’s a good and cheap place to start a ski vacation for a family with small children.
