Ski holidays by bus
Are you going to take the bus on your next ski vacation or have you considered it? Then read the bus travel tips here to find out more about the benefits of taking a bus to Austria, France, Italy, Norway and Sweden for your ski holidays.
Going on ski holidays by bus is a comfortable and relaxing way to travel, instead of having to drive for 16-18 hours to get to France, for example - you can just get on the bus and let the bus driver do the driving. You won't be tired when you arrive at your skiing destination.
That's why ski travel by bus is becoming increasingly popular. Package ski holidays with both comfortable bus transportation and accommodation included in the price offered by most ski travel companies is an increasingly popular way to go on ski holidays.
The bus ride to your destination allows you to relax, so you're ready for vacation and skiing when you arrive at your destination. The transportation itself is comfortable and you'll travel in new luxury coaches that are well-equipped.
The buses used for these long trips are known as luxury buses, sleeper buses or even hotel buses. It's a type of bus where you have more space between the seats, so everyone can recline their seat and get a good nap. Most of these new buses also have power and sockets so you can charge your phone, use your computer, watch movies on your iPad, and enjoy a comfortable way to enjoy the trip to the ski resort rather than having to drive yourself.
Bushygge on the way on ski holidays
Bus coziness when you travel on ski holidays by bus – you get closer to each other and have the chance to chat with people, play cards, and on some buses have a small beer so you nod off faster.
Choosing ski holidays and traveling by bus has many advantages. If you're traveling as a company, high school, boarding school, university, lodge, youth club, sports club or just a larger group. Then there is a lot of money to be saved by renting a bus, for example.
Package deals or bus transportation only
Most ski travel agencies will sell you the whole package, i.e. the bus ride, lift pass and accommodation at the ski resort. Some of the agencies will also sell you just the transportation, which is not something most of them advertise - hence a disappointing offer.
So if you're looking for "transportation only" to a ski holiday destination, contact the ski travel agents to see if they have any seats available on the dates that suit you. The same goes for airline seats, travel agents usually buy seats on airplanes well in advance, and therefore they must be sold or it's a loss for them.

Mini ski holiday by bus
Højmark Skirejser, takes skiers on short ski bus trips to Austria and Italy. Among others, the Salzburg area, Ischgl, St. Anton and in Italy Livigno and Canazei. Anton and in Italy Livigno and Canazei. Where you have either 4 or 5 days skiing.
Thinggard Skirejser, also offers short ski holidays to Norway by bus to Geilo, Beitostølen or Hemsedalen.
Many short ski trips to Norway and Sweden are by bus. Norway and Sweden are not as far away as the Alps. This is why many older people choose to go to Norway or Sweden to enjoy themselves and because the northern areas also offer oceans of cross-country ski trails.
For anyone going on a mini ski holiday by bus, we recommend heading north, because the round-trip bus travel time to the Alps is long – and when the journey is that long, you’ll want a few extra days on the slopes.
If travel time doesn’t matter to you, then it’s definitely money saved – by choosing a mini ski holiday by bus.
Is there anything to save by taking the bus on ski holidays?
If you're going to France, for example to Alpe d'Huez, it's about 1600 km from Aarhus. If your car drives 10 km per liter, it's 160 liters x 10 DKK per liter, so it's = 1600 DKK. The same goes for the return trip, let's just say it's 2500 it costs you to drive round trip - depending on how you drive and which car you drive.
This means that if you're only 2 people, it's not worth choosing a self-drive ski trip.
A trip of 3200 km in a week and 16 hours with full throttle down the autobahn is something few cars love. Therefore, there is some wear and tear and if you don't have a roof box, roof bars, snow chains, vigette (required to drive through Switzerland). It can quickly add up and become even more expensive.
Wear and tear, stone chips, fines, new tires - all these things are things people forget. These are what are called unforeseen expenses, the ones you don't expect to happen - but can happen. Personally, I've experienced them all. A flash of red through a tunnel in Switzerland, well then the bad mood starts to hang in the body for a short while - speaking from experience. Back to what it's all about.
So everything mentioned above is what you save by taking ski holidays by bus.
Everything you need to know before booking a ski bus trip
We touch on some things, but as I said, we're just passing on knowledge, so you should check things out and not take our word as 100% correct. Because ski travel agencies can change some things.
However, our research is based on information from travel companies that send skiing guests on the ski bus to our Nordic mountains or to the Alpine countries down south.
Since it’s ski holidays, there’s of course room for you to bring a snowboard or ski bag, plus a boot bag for ski boots or snowboard boots.
Of course, you'll also need to bring all your ski clothes, including ski pants, ski underwear, ski socks, a neck gaiter, ski gloves, toiletries and some other clothes for après ski or a nice trip to a good restaurant. This means that you're typically also allowed to bring a large bag that can hold a maximum of 20-25 kg. The reason we write bag is because many travel agencies will also write bag instead of suitcase, bags are easier to stack and the air seeps out of them, while the suitcase is rigid and takes up a lot of space when you have to pack the bus.
Then, of course, there's the hand luggage, which is typically what you take on the bus - here you have your travel documents, passport, charger, computer, snacks, ipad, gameboy, maps etc.
As mentioned, it's important to check with your chosen ski travel agency what their luggage rules are.
How does departure and arrival work
To stick with SneXpressen, which sends guests to the Alpine countries of Austria, Italy and France. The way their bus tours work is that you travel from Denmark on Fridays early in the morning, where they collect guests down through Jutland and gather people from Malmö, Zealand and Funen. Then they might gather people in a bus depending on how many people are on the tour.
Arrival
When you drive at that time, you'll be in Padborg around noon, from here it takes about 16-18 hours by bus. so you'll be at the ski resort between 07-09:00 the next morning if everything goes according to plan.
Good tip
It also means that instead of the 6 days skiing that most lift passes are sold as, you can extend your lift pass to 8 days skiing. You can do this from around 450-500 DKK. Of course, we recommend you do this to get the most out of your ski holidays.
Departure
The day you end your ski holidays and head home is Saturday. You'll typically check out during the morning, and the hotel you're staying at will have a place to store your luggage so you can get out skiing or snowboarding on Saturday before taking the ski bus back home. You can expect to be home on Sunday during the afternoon.
Bus pick-up When you travel by bus on ski holidays, you will be picked up at a bus stop in a city close to you. Danish travel companies have pick-up points all over the country, making it easy for you to get on the bus.
Collection points
So that everyone can join whether you live on Funen, Zealand or in Jutland up in North Jutland - there are stops where you have to show up.
Cities for collection:
Sweden - Malmö.
Zealand - Kastrup, Sjælør Station, Ølby Station, Ringsted Outlet (great deals at their Peak Performance Outlet), Slagelse.
Funen - Nyborg, Odensen.
Jutland - Aalborg, Randers, Aarhus, Skanderborg, Horsens, Vejle, Kolding, Aabenraa, Padborg
There are probably more pick-up points that we haven't included here. But these are the most used ones, especially when traveling to the Alps.
Please arrive in good time, the bus must keep a schedule to get you there on time. If you don't arrive on time, well - you risk having to make it up or, in the worst case scenario, you won't make it.
Respect for other fellow travelers
Out of respect for others on the bus and those who are getting on the bus, it's important to be on time. Before such a long trip, you don't want to create a bad relationship by arriving at the last minute.
You're looking forward to the ski holidays and pack early, show up on time like it's an exam - then you get on the bus and turn on mofibo so you can just relax for the next 7 to 16 hours depending on where you're going or check your phone.
Recommendations for the bus tour
- Download some movies at home from Netflix, Viaplay, HBO, Amazon Prime all have this option where you can download content and watch it offline.
- Make a good playlist on spotify from home and download it again as above. That way you'll save tons of data and you won't get bored.
- Charger for both phone and computer.
- Make a couple of good sandwiches, buy some good candy and chocolate.
- Water, beer, coffee can be purchased on the bus. Otherwise, bring something with you.
- Don't forget your headset or earbuds - maybe both.
- A deck of cards - never fails
Of course, you can't smoke on any bus, but since it's a bus with a lot of people, there are driving rest rules that must be observed and the driver must have breaks. Your legs need to breathe and there will be enough stops along the way so you can get out and get air to your lungs, as they say.
We wish everyone going on ski holidays by bus a very good trip.
